Some may be put off by the self-awareness of this low-budget film from writer-director Joe Bigg: not only its vintage influences (a horror director who loves ’80s movies?! But beneath the swagger that might have been scripted, the film has a surprisingly beautiful sense of the romance of a final Christmas Eve, which is reflected in the film’s visual style, which relies heavily on 16mm cinematography, the glow of Christmas light, and swirls of grainy snow – It is a wonderful sight to behold.
