Our New Year’s Style Resolutions

Expand my panel. As we head into 2025, I want to add some color to my wardrobe: maroon cashmere here, sky blue fabric there, and maybe a multi-colored mohair of some sort. This would be important within my group of friends, because I rarely stray from neutral. —Anthony Obanir Jr., executive assistant to global managing editor

Rummage through my closet. If last year was about falling in love, this year is about commitment — to clothes I already wear regularly, sure, but also to sad, forgotten closet gems that need a little more attention. —Avidan Grossman, Senior Business Editor

Find my Goldilocks wardrobe mix. I never want to lean too heavily into one path, whether it’s Ivy League prep, rugged western wear, traditional tailoring, or any other subset of modern menswear. This year, I was often guilty of limiting myself to one specific look, which ultimately stifled my creativity and love for clothing. Now, I’m shifting my focus to mixing everyone Aesthetics that inspire me to try to be my best. Maybe that means a cowboy-ready shirt with a Yale-ready jacket, or some vintage military pants with a Harris tweed sport coat. Are these pioneering groups? Absolutely not. Would it be a fun and achievable challenge for me to order my perfect blend? 100%. —Doug Branlund McClenahan, Discord Community Manager

Bare some torso. My name is Tyler, and I am a serial uniform repeater. My goal for 2024 was to stop feeling self-conscious about wearing the same look over and over again, and it has definitely made it easier to dress up every day. Now, I’ve decided to follow my colleague Joel Pavelski’s resolution from last year: I plan to show more skin in 2025. Well, no Which Lots of skin. But crop tops are still popular right now, so you might see a bit of midriff every now and then. —Tyler Chen, associate trade editor

Keep doing that to me. Last year, my goal was to have less money and pare down my wardrobe to things I actually love and wear, and overall I’d say I achieved that. Or, at least, I generally made an honest effort to do so; Most days, when I look at my closet, I know what I want to achieve and I feel happy when I wear it. So, on top of this feeling of progress, my resolution for 2025 is to hone more, and constantly update the course, so that I can maintain new versions of myself. – Eileen Carter, staff writer

Take everything. Every summer, I tell myself that this This is the year I finally get my head around. Every summer, I go out and hold on to my precious locks. Come June of 2025, my head will finally have its day in the sun. —Yang Yi Goh, Style Editor

Proceed with agility. My plan for 2025 is to ditch the things I don’t wear, and embrace a sense of play, discovery and magpie-like affection for the things I do buy. It’s just clothes. There is no uniform anymore. It’s not dangerous. —Joel Pavelski, Global Director of Content Strategy
