J.Crew

Rugby shirt with striped placket

I’ve always loved rugby jerseys, but since I started coming into the office three days a week, I’ve been really drawn to the look – perhaps to a fault. (If repeating an outfit were a crime, I would receive multiple life sentences.) I’ve gotten this joint from J.Crew in all the colors they offer, and honestly, I wear them more than I should. They fit great and make your shoulders look lifted too.

Koala Eco

Beginner set

I’ve been searching for nice-looking, refillable, non-toxic cleaning products that would make my home smell good without destroying the environment. Koala Eco checks all of these boxes, and I can’t recommend them enough. 5 stars for laundry detergent and kitchen spray. Catch them while they’re not sold!

Isles Sandwich / First Intermission

Vintage Hawaiian jacket from the 1960s

Someone once described my fashion sense as “an early 1960s civil rights worker.” But that’s the opposite of passive resistance when I accentuate my typical uniform of oxford shirt and skinny chinos with the psychedelic Polynesian patterns of a vintage Sandwich Isles sport coat. This is jacket number six since I started collecting this long-defunct jacket in Hawaii, but thanks to its recent discovery by Tikivils fans all over the world, I paid more for this jacket than the other five jackets combined.

Wilson

Pro Staff 97 V14 Tennis Racket

My truest comrades! I have been playing tennis with Wilson’s Pro Staff set of rackets for over 15 years. Over the course of 2024, I tried almost every other putter on the market, thinking it was time for a change. In the end, though, I ended up right where I started, but with Wilson’s latest (and perhaps prettiest) version of the Pro Staff 97. Don’t get me started on the strings, though…

Comme des Garçons

Comme des Garcons “Series 6 Artificial: Tar”.

What’s better than smelling like asphalt and car exhaust? I can’t stop smelling my wrists when I spray this stuff. It’s much easier than stopping by the gas station to get a whiff of gasoline (my favorite smell).

Death of New York City

Haircut in death new york city

In a moment of temporary madness, I went to Mitch Wolfe, the hairstylist I’ve trusted for nearly a year now, and told him to give me whatever haircut he thought I should get, and let him have his way with my mop. After about an hour of anxiously avoiding looking in the mirror, I looked up to find my overgrown hair had been transformed into a short fringe — something I never thought of having but which turned out to complement my pork-bun-shaped cheeks. The new haircut eventually went multi-platinum in my DMs. Sometimes, I think you have to roll the dice a little bit.

Wrangler

13MWZ Original cowboy jeans

A few months ago, I purchased my first pair of Wranglers after a co-worker tipped me off to a ridiculous sale, and boy, have I not been this excited about wearing tough denim since walking into the ocean at APC New Treat 15 years ago.

Todd Snyder

Dylan jacket in Italian suede

When I saw the Dylan black suede deck online for half price (NWT!), I thought to myself; Don’t think twice, everything is fine.

Clean Kanteen

Recycled stainless steel water bottle with loop cap

As much as I loved my old water bottle, I’m trying to limit the use of plastic in my life. So, like any nervous professional shopper, I looked for a very specific water bottle, one made of stainless steel, with a wide opening for easy cleaning, a very simple construction with no weird parts, and a handle. It turns out that it is not easy to find. I finally reached for this product from Klean Kanteen and have never felt calmer.

Anthony Obanir Jr., executive assistant to global managing editor

Thank goodness for a naturally fast metabolism, because I’ve consumed at least 30 bags of this candy since the summer of 2024. There’s something magical about the crunch quickly followed by the gooey texture. I haven’t felt true nostalgia like this since rewatching Ed, Ed and Eddy.

Puma

Scuderia Ferrari Suede XL Desert Motorsport Boots

Puma has dropped some serious heat with its F1 product line and its latest collaboration with Ferrari at the Vegas Grand Prix may be its best yet. The desert-inspired blend of Suede Classic is so comfortable and has a unique pale red (pink?) color that I find myself wearing it constantly. With Lewis Hamilton joining forces with Charles Leclerc next season, Ferrari is probably the coolest Formula 1 team to represent you.

Saint Laurent

Light of slippers

I picked up the last pair of embossed leather at a SoHo store and they are the most stylish shoe I’ve ever laid eyes on in 2024. Maybe ever!

Nicholson studio

Sorting pants

What size should your pants be? It’s a terrible dilemma. After a few seasons of my butt getting bigger and wider at the expense of my weak legs, I’ve spent the past year actively searching for my favorite shape, trying to achieve different silhouettes that resemble a pendulum swing. It turns out my appetite for wide-leg pants is still going strong because the best pants I bought all year were these big, high-waisted ones from Studio Nicholson. It has the perfect weight for all temperatures. The peach cotton fabric wrinkles wonderfully. A single exaggerated fold can cut a leg. They are the bulkiest pants I own, and also somewhat the most versatile. It might be easy to scoff at buying expensive pants like these, but I’m sorry, I don’t have any.

Engineering clothing

Trucker jacket

Corduroy is an all-year-round fabric, and I’m going to die on that hill, even if it means I’ll completely shrivel up in mid-August while wearing corduroy. I think fall and winter are the best times for fabric, and my trusty new Engineered Garments sweater has been waiting for its time to shine since I bought it back in January. It’s the perfect boxy fit, a little short to hit just above my waist. It’s quilted and heavy, which is good enough to keep me warm when the temperature gets around 40 degrees, but works great as a mid-weight layer under a coat when the weather gets really hot truly Corduroy season.

Easy Cowboy

Custom leather bag

Sometimes, the algorithm delivers actual results. One fateful day last December—during that endless, empty week between Christmas and New Year’s—I had entered into an almost unbreakable symbiosis with my sofa, buried under a freshly fallen layer of Ferrero Rocher wrappers, when I noticed something interesting. On my Instagram account. Explore the page.

It was a Rolltop duffel bagexquisitely crafted from real, undyed leather and covered in a stunning array of hand-drawn illustrations: a trio of greyhounds on a racetrack here, a 1980s Toyota pickup there. After a few clicks, I learned that this was the work of a guy named Eric, aka Easy Cowboy, from my hometown of Toronto; A few more taps and sent a direct message asking if he would make me a daily work bag.

And boy, did he ever do that. Two months later, I picked up my gorgeous new bag, which Eric had carefully decorated with a mix of words and images I’d chosen—some aspirational, like the old Volvo wagon I hoped to one day own; And some goofiness, like Kermit the Frog wearing a cowboy hat; Some are meaningful, like the name of the late and much-loved pup, Ziggy. I’ve had the pleasure of carrying it into the office every day this year, and not just because it’s so much more functional and distinctive than worn-out strings The New Yorker I have used it before, but also because the skin deepens, ages and becomes more beautiful with each use. I can’t wait to see how beautiful it will be in five, ten, or even fifty years.

Nothing special

NOrange double knee pants

I got a pair of Nothin’ Special’s NOrange Double Knee Pants in July and they instantly became one of my favorite pairs of pants. They’re handcrafted in Brooklyn by designer Ryo Matsuoka, and you’ll find more interest in a randomly selected square inch of these shirts than you will in most entire pants. I’ve treated my family with the kind of reckless recklessness that’s usually documented in police blotter, and somehow they seem better off than they were on day one. (I also dry them regularly, with no consequences.)

Dr. Dennis Gross

Alpha Beta Extra Gentle Daily Exfoliating Pads

Exfoliation is good for your skin. We know this. You know this. But, like going to bed earlier or doing more cardio, it’s one of those tidbits of information you come across online and think, huh, I should really do that… before unpausing Netflix and completely forgetting about it. Enter Dr. Dennis Gross’ Gentle Facial Pads, a duo of pre-moistened wipes that come packed with a host of nourishing ingredients, like lactic acid, willow bark extract, and colloidal oatmeal. A 5-pack costs less than $20 and is ridiculously easy to use. Wipe your face with one, wait a few minutes, then do the same with the other. That’s it. The whole process is as smooth as ordering at Chipotle — if only a stuffed burrito bowl (double chicken, extra guac) came with the power to help you feel ready for the holiday party.
